2023 – present
In March 2023, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid was elected President of the African Refiners and Distributors Association (ARDA) — the continental body representing Africa’s petroleum refiners and fuel distributors. He was subsequently re-elected for a second term, a mark of the confidence the association places in his leadership.
As President he has become one of the continent’s most prominent advocates for African energy security. He has called for an end to the export of unrefined African crude, urging the continent to refine its own resources, and has championed an agenda of policy harmonisation, infrastructure integration, and regional cooperation on crude pricing.
Under his leadership, ARDA’s flagship convening — ARDA Week — has set the agenda for delivering Africa’s energy future, bringing together governments, regulators, and industry from across the continent.
